Gary Clark Jr. 4/16/13 The Roxy

Gary Clark Jr. April 16, 2013 at The Roxy in West Hollywood, CA

If you haven’t heard of Gary Clark Jr, you will.  The Rock N Roll Gods and my schedule finally aligned and I was lucky enough to see him for the first time last night, at my favorite venue on the Sunset Strip, the Roxy. If you have seen him at the 2010 Crossroads Guitar Festival, Bonnaroo, or anywhere else for that matter,  you already know what I found out last night!  Hearing his guitar playing and singing in person transported me to another level and left me slack-jawed.  Everyone talks about his guitar playing, which is completely mind-blowing, but he also has a beautiful voice!  My favorite vocally off of his first major label studio album, Blak and Blu, is a song called “Please Come Home” in which his falsetto is showcased.  Last night, he and his band played over two hours, poured their hearts out and made it look effortless!  It was so riveting to watch him play.  His guitar just seemed to melt in his hands as soulful blues flew out!  This is the real deal!  His next tour date is April 26, 2013  at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival.
