On July 27, 2012, I attended the first of three PLAY MOCA events planned for the The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA this summer. Presented by Smashbox Cosmetics and curated by Indie record label IAMSOUND, the night featured performances by IO ECHO and Salem and visual stimulation through the art of Drew Barrymore. The Kogi truck was there serving up tasty food and a few bars were set up under a canopy of large white balloons. Along with the beer and wine, cocktails were available with Lemonade LA‘s cucumber mint lemonade. Balloons with Smashbox lipstick inside were being given out. Popping the balloon was sort of like the rush of getting Cracker Jack when I was a kid to see what prize I got, only better. Infrared Matte!
The next PLAY MOCA will be on August 17, 2012 with performances by Zola Jesus and Active Child.
The events are FREE, from 6–10pm, at The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA. Free ticket reservations through brownpapertickets.com are required for each performance. MOCA members are granted priority access to reserve tickets.
