Imperial County road trip, Part 2. Salvation Mountain (Niland, CA)

On September 29, 2013, I took a short road trip (200 miles) to Imperial County, to re-visit Salvation Mountain.  I had previously made the trek to visit Leonard Knight’s masterpiece in 2010.  You can see photos from that trip HERE.  I heard that Leonard was no longer living onsite and I was curious (and hopeful) to see how the mountain was holding up without his watchful eye and constant care.  I was pleased to see it in pretty good condition, with the exception of erosion that I learned was caused by heavy rainfall earlier this year.

While I was there, I picked up a brochure on the official sponsorship program to protect and preserve Leonard’s work and message.  Individual sponsorship starts at $35.  Learn more about the preservation efforts HERE.
